erm is anyone going be in rochdale tomorrow or monday evning by any chance???
a couple of days ago my clutch went funny and well i only needed to lift it...say less than an inch, and my ca would move, i didnt think much of it but then yesterday, in the morning, when i startd my mini, let the engine warm up and tried to put it in first, it wouldnt go, but eventually it did, so i set off, as i was driving i shifted from 3rd to 4th but as soon as i got out of 3rd, it wouldnt go into 4th,3rd,2nd, or 1st.... pulled up and it wudnt go into any gear, evrytime i tried to push it to 1st a grinding noise happend. but when i turned the car off it was fine, all the gears where going in easily, but as soon as i turned it on, same problem, so i turned it off, put it in 2nd, turned it back on and drove it to a carpark, and had to get it home on the back of a RAC truck.
does anyone have any idea what it could be? someting to do with the cable... or the clutch itself....
o yes and when the clutch startd biting really low, even with it pressed fully dwn, the car would still pull when i was in 1st....
no idea why

There isn't a clutch cable on Mini's, it's hydrolic. When you press the pedal now I presume it doesn't feel like it's doing anything. This is because it is only moving the master cylinder. You must have a leak in the system and need to find the leak and fix that part. Do you know how to bleed the system? If so fill up the resovoir with brake/clutch fluid and bleed from the small screw on top of the slave cylinder. This should cure the problem. If not you need to look for leaks from either the master cylinder, slave cylinder, the pipes or joints.

You need two people.
One sits in the car and presses the clutch down and holds it down.
The other then opens the bleed screw on the slave cylinder.
Some fluid should come out, then tighten the screw.
Ask the clutch pedal man to bring the pedal to top again.
Repeat this 3 or 4 times and clutch should work.
If the arm doesn't move, look for leaking fluid.
When it works keep a close eye on the fluid level over next few trips out and top up if needed.
