Not Mini related. My domestic CD player (Philips separate job) has turned into a Kareoki machine, eg it doesn't play the vocal track. I have run a CD cleaner through it but no difference. Do I nee to take it in bits and manually clean the laser lens or is it going to be an electronics fault?
If I play Motley Crue, Vince Neill is just a feint squeak. Death Stars do have an audible low growl but no choruses are present. So it is like a range of harmonics.
Any ideas? Could be a good toy for a party but otherwise it is a bit inconvenient. The amp and speakers work ok with my record player so it is definately the CD player. ANd the same CDs are ok in my PC

We have a dvd player that was playing up. Use a head cleaner on it made no difference. Took it apart cleaned the lens still bad. Had a look at the lens through a magnifying glass and you could see a tiny speck of dirt, cleaned it again worked perfect.

if its not that, i would suggest seeing if one of the speakers is out, it happened to me in the mini, and the wires had come off the bottom of one, cd's are often balanced between speakers, vocals from one, backing from the other... just a sugestion!

Thanks for that. I'll try the speakers first - Humphrey may have had a pycho moment and dragged the wires out. Then I'll pull it in bits if that doesn't cure it.

The conundrum is resolved. Cr*ppy phono leads connnecting the amp and CD unit. When you wiggle them full sound is restored, even though they looked fully inserted. So I shall replace them when funds allow.
Thanks for all the suggestions.
