Minis where fitted with it from 1994 - M reg, It may have been slightly earlier though. I think if you have an A+ engine, you can always take an electronically equipped distributor from a Metro. I used a Luminition Magnetronic kit on my '79 Estate. It did make a huge difference. The engine seemed a lot smoother. I had been suffering from the points closing up causing either a misfire or no fire then I would energetically leap from my car, remove the grill, unclip the distributor and get my .7 feeler gauge between the points and gingerly tighten the adjusting screw. And when you've done that twice on the way to work, every day, the money is well spent on the ignition kit. Of course I could have just swapped the distributor for a less worn one and just swapped or adjusted the £2.50 points every thousand miles.

My estate has an 1100 A Series. So won't take a Metro distributor. i think Coopers went electronic slightly earlier than non-coopers. 1992 was the major year for change - 998 to 1275 but not sure which month. Then Coopers went to injection. Standard Minis were a bit later. David

All the Mk5 (1991 on ) 1275 Minis had electronic igntion. The last of the MK4 1/2 998s were sold on points. How geeky do I sound lol.

Injection models - cat Emissions requirements came in in 1992.
Carb models - a random device called a bi-flow pipe. In the same casing as a cat, breaks up with age. The carb models have to meet less stringent (pre 1992 - up to 4% or something silly like that) emissions standards, so this can be removed it it is set up right. My mate Rob P's just passsed without one.
All carb models were phased out at the end of 1995.

Mine passes every year without the CAT. You can rev the arse off it when the probe is in and it'll read fine! ;D
