Well i have got myself a new Toy!
My dad and Myself have wanted to do historic rallying for a long time now, and we wanted to do it in a cooper or S, and when the chance came along to buy an original Mk2 cooper we went ahead and did it! original, (rusty) body, all the cooper parts like chrome door tops, 100mph speedo, cooper engine with 12G head and twin carbs, and the boot board brackets in the boot!
so the idea is to get all the metalwork done, wanting it acid dipped or similar, all new panels where it needs, but try to keep as much of the original metal as possible... half rollcage, works dash, 4.5x10 minilights, twin tanks, buckets and harnesses, fuel lines etc inside. i'll be painting this one myself, as a mate of mine who leant us the trailer and van, has just bought a compressor and all the kit, so after taking my painting course at uni, i think i'll beable to handle it! he will be going back to the original colour of Old el Paso Beige and a white roof.
i want to do some welding too, but i think i'll just tack stuff in place and then get somoene else to weld it all up, and seam weld it too for added strength.
engine wise, keeping it in the 1000cc class, as we dont want to jump in too deep! so original cooper engine, port and polish the head, think its already on +20, we'll get the crank and con rods lightened and balanced, lightened flywheel, some sort of tasty cam, and keep it on the twin hs2's.
anyway, enough waffle! Pics!!!
loaded up!
Boxes of bits!
in his new home!
looks like we'll need a new front, door steps, sills, a panels, heel board, and boot corner repairs.... hmmm... lol
one of the previous owners has pop riveted on some new sills and a drivers side inner a panel... lol, so they are brand new and i'll just use them again! ahahaaa
so there we go, more pics as i crack out the grinder! my dad is in charge of the engine build, and im doing the bodywork, so lets see then shall we! how does running by the end of the year sound!??
